Bio/Statement

Martin Mull is an actor, musician, and artist whose visual work is noted for its combination of Pop Art and collage. Mull was born in Chicago, IL and earned his BFA and MFA from the Rhode Island School of Art and Design in the 1960’s. Mull’s task, as he puts it, is to “examine an instant.” His work is characterized by situational imagery, alternately playful and menacing. His compositions can be read as frozen scenes in a longer story: incomplete, undefined, and never answered. With a dedication to the craft, Mull paints scenes from the collective subconscious, revealing cracks in the facade. Mull lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Public collections include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, The Brooklyn Museum, New York, The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington
