Helen Pashgian and Lita Albuquerque
June 3 - July 8, 2006
Patricia Faure Gallery is pleased to announce our upcoming show of works by Helen Pashgian and Lita Albuquerque. In the main gallery we will be showing new polyester resin and metal paintings by acclaimed Light and Space artist Helen Pashgian, who is currently showing in the "Translucence" exhibition at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena. This is the first exhibition in ten years to feature new works by Pashgian. Art writer Arden Reed commented that, "the key to Pashgian's art lies in its mystery." Her process, composition, form and scale combine in perfectly constructed spaces of light and intensity. Helen has created these powerful works over the last several years, having taken a self-imposed hiatus from exhibiting; only now is the artist ready to again reveal her work to the public.
In the rear gallery we will exhibit documents from Lita Albuquerque's 1980's earthworks. Albuquerque is coming to us fresh from her solo exhibition at the Frederick Weisman Museum at Pepperdine University, Malibu. We are showing a broad range of Albuquerque’s work as context for her long-term investigation into ideas of space and time, and how the body relates to each. We will have a new installation by Albuquerque in the Sculpture Garden, and several pieces relating to her upcoming "Pole Project" which is an exciting new ephemeral project the artist will undertake later this year at both the North and South poles of the Earth.
We are very pleased to bring you this exhibition of work by two of Southern California's foremost women artists. Please join us for an opening reception on June 3, from 5-8 pm. The show will be on view through July 8, 2006.
